Camera Sensor Cleaning Service FAQs
How to determine if you need a sensor cleaning?
Light gray or dark spots showing up on your photos even after you’ve cleaned your lens? You likely have sensor dust or debris.
Sensor dust is a common problem that every photographer encounters. It can occur when swapping lenses since this process exposes the sensor chamber (and even the actual sensor on mirrorless cameras) to the elements. It can even happen over time especially when using zoom lenses that extend because they suck dust and debris in when you’re shooting.
An easy way to tell for sure if you need your sensor cleaned is take a photo of something light like a white wall or sky. Even better yet, shoot in aperture priority, stop down to F16, and take a photo. If you see little gray or dark spots on your photo (zoom in to check the entire image), you need a sensor cleaning.
Why should i have my camera’s sensor professionally cleaned?
Sure, some people will tackle their own sensor cleaning at home. But for most people, the idea of opening up their camera and cleaning their sensor is a bit scary. And for good reason! One wrong move when working inside of your camera could damage the shutter or scratch the low pass filter, which could result in a costly repair.
Our techs have cleaned thousands of sensors over the years. They use approved tools in a clean environment to get even the toughest of stuck on pieces of debris off your sensor. Plus, they’ll clean the mirror and mirror box, external cleaning of the body, an auto focus check, and an exposure check to make sure your camera is in good working order.
Are self-cleaning sensors sufficient?
Many cameras have self-cleaning sensors that vibrate when the camera is turned on or off, or when a cleaning mode is activated. While this helps prolong the cleanliness of your camera, it doesn’t work in every situation. Sometimes it just moves the dust around or if debris is stuck on, it won’t remove it. That’s where we come in! Not only will we clean your sensor, but we’ll clean the mirror and mirror box, external cleaning of the body, an auto focus check, and an exposure check to make sure your camera is in good working order.
