Film Basics Workshop
Love the classic look of film photos but have no idea where to start? Or maybe it’s been a few years (or decades) since you last picked up a film camera. This class is your ticket to mastering 35mm photography! Whether you’re dusting off your parents’ old camera or just scored a thrift-store gem, we’ll cover everything you need to know to shoot and get solid results.
From figuring out what all those dials on your camera do to picking the perfect film stock for your vibe, we’ve got you covered. Plus, you’ll get insider tips for working with your local film lab (that’s us!) and a behind-the-scenes tour of how your film gets developed and scanned.
What you will learn:
- What is 35mm film: Get a solid understanding of film, how it works, and why this classic format still has such a loyal following.
- Choosing the perfect camera for you: Learn about the different types of cameras and which one fits your shooting style.
- Getting to know your camera: We’ll break down the different dials, what they mean, and when to adjust each one.
- Film stocks 101: Discover different types of film available, their characteristics, and how and when to shoot them.
- Metering and exposure: Learn how to properly expose your shots using the in camera light meter.
- Shooting tips for better results: Practical tips for shooting with natural light on film.
- Working with a film lab: Insider tips on how to get the best results from your local lab (hey, that’s us!), including what to ask for when developing and scanning your film.
This workshop is perfect if you’re new to film photography or looking to refresh your skills. By the end, you’ll be ready to capture everything from those epic moments to daily snaps with confidence—and maybe even turn your friends into film fanatics, too!
This workshop is led by Taylor, a passionate film photographer with two decades of experience in film photography. Feel free to bring any questions you have – discussing film is always a blast!
NOTE: A film camera is not required for this workshop, but if you already have one, feel free to bring it! If not, we’ll be covering different types of film cameras so you can learn which one fits your needs. Not sure if your camera qualifies? Email or call us 717-397-3019
